    • A well-known book that is the first in C. S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series, this book introduces the siblings Peter, Susan, Edmond, and Lucy as they travel into the English countryside for safety during WWII and discover a portal to a magical winter land in a wardrobe. Once in Narnia, the siblings are wrapped up in a battle between an evil queen who keeps it forever winter but never Christmas, and the lion Aslan, coming at last to free Narnia.

    • This is a quick read, as are the remaining 6 books in the series. They are warm and charming. Although they are Christian allegories, they are not hit-you-over-the-head explicit, and one can read them as fantasy just fine. They are suitable for young tweens.
